Spotlight on O’Métier
Groupe Ortec launches its in-house training scheme: O’Métier.
With O’Métier, launched in 2009, the Ortec group is committed prioritizing the development of its people’s technical skills.
Ortec has hired over 1,000 people at every level over the last three years,: operators, supervisors and executives. The best solution for maintaining exemplary quality and safety despite the rise in staffing levels, was a long-term training scheme - hence O’Métier.
How does O’Métier work?
Over the next few years, the scheme will consolidate, develop and reinforce our people’s skills, know-how, methods and technical proficiency, whatever their job field.
Who is eligible for O’Métier?
Every one: at Ortec, we believe it is essential to consolidate the “knowledge pyramid”. Everyone needs this knowledge:
- Operators
- Supervisors
- Management
How is the O’Métier programme organized?
There are five key steps in the O’Métier training programme:
- Identifying job fields
The O’Métier project managers survey the job fields before the operational phase gets under way. All of the group’s job fields have been listed and sorted so that we can draw up a clear, detailed map of Ortec job fields.
- Mapping out job fields
All of the tasks and operations performed within each job field have been classified into a list of core job skills. It can be used to design a detailed questionnaire on skills and abilities.
- Testing knowledge and skills
At the beginning of the operational phase, Ortec staff members complete a questionnaire that will give them a clear picture of their current skills in their sector and tell them whether they need to upgrade.
- Learning and development
If staff members’ skills need upgrading, they are put in contact with the Training Department. Every year, the Ortec group devotes 5% of its payroll to training its people.
- Knowing what to do - and doing it!
The O’Métier corporate project is vital for the Ortec group. It keeps the group’s know-how up-to-date and accessible in the long term so we can anticipate the future more effectively and enhance our credibility in clients’ eyes.
